Kolaches! Went on a little kolache field trip to Kolaches and Coffee in Overland Park. Brought home a pineapple and a blueberry. Tried 1/2 of the pineapple – it was good. I can’t say HOW good because it’s been so many years since I’ve had kolaches that my taste buds don’t have a comparison.

Kolaches! Sprouts has a great selection of dried fruit. I selected a few. Cherries were close to $13/pound. Nope. I want some savory kolaches, but haven’t decided what yet.

Kolache update: BTW I always heard and pronounced this with an ee sound at the end. Wrong. A single one is a kolach. Multiple: kolaches.

Tracy Lyou checked out the Costco dried fruit prices.. definitely lower per ounce, but in the true Costco tradition, I would have to invite the entire subdivision to eat dried fruit to finish those bags. Here’s what I’ve found so far. Still researching: (probably should list the Amazon prices)

Blueberries

Costco: .55 oz / 20 oz bag / $11.00 [Kirkland]

Apricots

Costco: 25 oz / 48 oz bag / $12.00 [Kirkland]

Target: .63 oz / 6 oz bag / $3.79 [Sun-Maid]

Sprouts: .50 oz / $8.00 pound [bulk]

Mangoes

Costco: .285 oz / 35 oz bag / $10.00 [Kirkland]

Target: .75 oz / 6 oz bag / $4.50 [Good & Gather]

Dates

Costco: .166 oz / 48 oz bag / $7.90 [Kirkland]

Facebook is asking me what’s on my mind. Kolaches. Kolaches are on my mind. My next Texas/Cultural educational and yummy experience. The railroad brought Czech Immigrates to central Texas in the mid-late 19th century. Lucky us! If you’ve traveled along I-35 in Texas, I bet you’ve stopped here.

Kolches – Starting the search for the best prices on dehydrated fruit. So far, Target has good prices and Sprouts bulk has better prices. Do any of you local peeps know of another place that might have cheaper bulk dehydrated fruit? Strawberries and blueberries are consistently very expensive, but mango, pineapple, apricot, cherries are falling in the 44¢ to 70¢ per ounce range.
