Fromista, Población de Campos, Villarmentero, Villalcázar, Carrión de los Condes
Watch for:
Leaving Frómista – Alternate Route: Río Ucieza Route, adds .9km (Wear long pants on this route). Not well marked but easy to navigate. Closely follows the river. More natural scenery than main route.
Población – *Turn R immediately before the bridge after Población and follow the faint 4×4 track closest to the river. Track is often overgrown with flowers, grass, thistles. Don’t cross the first bridge unless to visit the town of Revenga and/or cross over to the Primary Path.
*Continue to the town of Villovieco (fountain, church, snack stand).
*Turn L and cross over the bridge. (picnic area, snack stand, water)
*Trail continues to the R directly after the bridge before picnic area. at a well-marked dirt road.
*Follow the dirt road until you meet a paved road with the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Río to the L.
*Turn L and follow the paved road (P-981) to rejoin the main trail in Villalcázar de Sirga.
Vaillalcázar de Sirga – Popular café-bar opposite the church. Distinctive white teepees in village.
Carrión de los Condes – *Singing nuns of Albergue de Santa Maria: Calle del Clerigo Pastor, 6. Gather in the large common room at 6:30pm.
*Thursday morning market Plaza de Santa Maria.
Dining recommendations (by Beebe): Restaurante Las Vigas (upscale) Located in old monastery kitchen of the Monasterio de San Zoilo. Trad dishes, vegetables. €25-35
Restaurante La Corte* – attached to the hostal of the same name. wonderful place for menü del peregrino, menu del dia, or a la carte. €12-20.
Warning! – Procure enough supplies for the 18km stretch without services tomorrow. Seasonal snack stand about 10km after Carrión de los Condes.
