Watch for:
Cirauqui – One of the few places you can see and walk directly on surviving stones from the 2,000 year old Roman road. Especially the first 100m / 328 ft just as you exit Cirauqui.
Estella – Development began under King Sancho Ramírez in the early 11th century.
Estella – Weekly market Thurs 9am-2pm established 1164. Sets up on two squares: Plaza de Santiago and Plaza de los Fueros. (Note: for 2021 I am scheduled to arrive on Saturday.)
Estella – Traditional Wood Workshop: Midway between the churches of Santo Sepulcro and San Pedro on the right side as you walk on the Camino (per Beebe). Master Craftsman, Carmelo Boneta Lopetegul born 1946. Traditions carried on since at least the 11th century.
Nun’s Choir: Hospederia Convento Benedictinas.
Estella – Restaurant recommendations (Beebe): Restaurante-Bar Izarra (pintxos) and Restaurante-Bar Florida.
Estella Plazas: The main square, Plaza de los Fueros is filled w/cafes and the church San Juan Bautista. Plaza de Santiago: 200 meters further along the c/Mayor. A more intimate plaza w/variety of inexpensive restaurants, bars and hotels located in the surrounding streets.
