Mary at Orisson

I sat in the grass on the side of the trail on the way to Orisson. Three young French fellows stopped to see if I was ok, and we had a little visit. One of them took my picture at Orisson. The sun was behind me- but I vouch that the woman in the photo is me.

September 3: Arrived at last! Met my first pilgrims

Settled in my room and found dinner. As it is on the Camino, a person can walk solo, but we are not without companions. Met my first Pilgrims over dinner. I shared a table with Matthew, an architectural student from Paris, and a couple from Portland, OR. Matthew walked here from Paris, carrying his little tent, cooking gear, and water filter for gathering drinking water from small creeks. The Oregon couple started this Camino in Le Puy, France, and will walk on to Santiago- about a 1,000 mile walk. He’s 66 and she’s 70.

October 11 Samos – Peragrinas: Kooka and Petra

Meet Kooka (left in the photo without me) and Petra. They live in Barcelona and walk a week of the Camino each year.  Today is their last day for this year. They’ll be on the train from Sarria to Home tonight. Turns out Petra is a doctor, and when she heard me coughing, I had to show her my meds. I have no fever; she checked!

October 9 Las Herrerias de Valcarce – Back in The Saddle

Well. Here I am in Spain with 90 miles left in my 500 mile walk across northern Spain. Four days ago, I got a heckuva respiratory infection. Four days into seven days of antibiotics and I’m on the trail again-with a mountain to climb! No way have I recovered the strength for that, so rented a horse. Last time I was on a horse was when I was 12 on one of Charlene’s horses. Up the mountain we went on a very rocky and steep path. It was a two hour ride and I was scared for most of it.
