The plane was larger than expected.
The baggage claim area is pretty much like any other. The tube with the hiking poles didn’t make the normal conveyor mechanism. It was brought out on a cart for some reason.

For New York, then a red eye flight to Paris, and all points beyond. In the tube are hiking poles and sharp things that need to be checked. Everything else is carry on luggage.
